Alzheimer’s disease is an illness of the human brain. Alzheimer's disease was first described by Alois Alzheimer in 1906.This happens when a huge number of nerve cells die, nerve cells die in particular regions of the brain and shrinks as gaps develop in the temporal lobe. This affects a person’s ability to remember things, think clearly, ability to remember events, names. This is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. It can be with genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors that affect the brain cells. At the initial stage of the disease, forgetfulness and mild confusion is seen. Over the period of time, recent memories also start erasing. Advanced stage symptoms may vary from body to body. But it begins with lapses of memory, difficulty in finding the right words for everyday objects or mood swings. Current treatment approaches focus on maintaining the mental function, managing behavioural symptoms, and slow or delay the disease progression.
