Stressed Assets is a special type of financial institution that buys the debtors of the bank at a mutually agreed value and attempts to recover the debts or associated securities by itself. The Stressed Assets are registered under the RBI and regulated under the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI Act, 2002).

The mandate of the ASSOCHAM National Council for Stressed Assets covers the aspects such as the major issues and challenges being faced the stakeholders and to play a vital role in bridging the gap between the industry, regulator, and policymaker. This includes conducting regular council meetings, webinar, summit and round table discussions under the guidance of Chairman, Co-Chairman and core committee members of the national council.

The various stakeholders, regulators and policy makers which are directly or indirectly involved in the council includes Reserve Bank of India, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and others.
