Food Processing Opportunities in Manipur & Buyer Seller Meet

Food Processing Industries sector is fast developing in Manipur. Favoured by agro-climatic conditions, Manipur produces variety of fruits, vegetables, cereals, pulses, spices, etc. suitable for processing and potential for export. Schemes like Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture with the objective of improving production and productivity of horticultural crops by harnessing the potential of the region makes this field a viable option for commercialization as well as marketing.

As per the Techno-feasibility Report conducted under the aegis of the National Horticultural Board and NABARD in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur, the potential area identified for horticultural crops is 2,77,064 Ha. Out of this, about 62,200 hectares is covered under horticulture crops and an area of 2,14,864 hectares still remains uncovered; giving ample opportunity for expansion.

The program will focus on the Central & State Govt. schemes and food processing opportunities. It shall focus on linking entrepreneurs with partners for forward-linkages. The program will also focus on ways to promote the state\'s economic vibrancy in terms of trade and commerce, buyer seller interactions, logistics, thus enabling sustainable and inclusive development. The key objective of proposed session would include: -

  • To augment the capacity of food processors working to upscale their operations through capital infusion, technology transfer, skill up-gradation and handholding support. 
  • To provide a better support system to the units in the food processing sector and support established self-help groups working in the food processing sector. 
  • To provide a platform for exploring business prospects/opportunities under the MoFPI Schemes for the food processing sector for local industry in the region. 
  • Linking farmers with the knowledge centres and processing units to strengthen access to domestic markets. 
  • Evaluate infrastructure, supply chain logistics, storage and processing capacity & discuss the possibility of replicating the successful model from other states 
  • To demonstrate best practices on value-addition in Food Processing
