ASSOCHAM's National Virtual Seminar "India's New Criminal Laws and Impact on Business & Society"

Background:

The Hon’ble President of India has recently given assent to three new criminal law bills passed by both the houses of the parliament. These new bills have aimed to reform key legislations including- the Indian Penal Code, 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 that shaped the Indian criminal justice system until now.

The decolonization of British-era’s criminal laws is a significant legislative reform which has far-reaching implications. Thus, there is a need of advocacy and discourse of education surrounding provisions in the new bills towards bringing about clarity on applicability of laws, rights and duties of everyone being part of the society and criminal justice system. This is more importantly a need of hour to stakeholders in business because the impact of new criminal laws has distinct economic consideration and obligations for industries and corporates.

In view of the above significant development, ASSOCHAM Department of Corporate, Legal and Regulatory Affairs plans to host virtual seminar on India’s New Criminal Laws and Impact on Business & Soceity on Thursday, 18^th January 2024 from 3pm onwards. The subject experts in the following sessions aim to dissect the intricacies of these new laws and their direct implications on business operations –

1. Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023 (BNS),
2. Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023 (BSB), and
3. Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS)
