ASSOCHAM presents Web Series on Cervical Cancer Control – A Comprehensive Approach

  • 24 Jan, 2022
  • 4:00pm - 6:00pm

In 2020, an estimated 604 000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide and about 342 000 women died from the disease. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types is the main cause of cervical cancer. About 14,480 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed and 4,290 women will die from cervical cancer (Source: American Cancer Society) It is crucial to know that every 8 minutes 1 woman dies of cervical cancer in India. January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month and a vital opportunity to educate women about the disease. Although primary prevention through HPV vaccination has been endorsed by WHO, under certain conditions, in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), its cost, partial efficacy, and safety have been intensely debated. Further research and advocacy efforts are needed to determine the optimal strategies for its introduction and sustained use in the country. There is considerable research and programmatic evidence in support of secondary prevention of cervical cancer through screening and treatment. Regardless of the screening approach, research and prevention programs have underscored the importance of ensuring strong linkages between screening, diagnosis, and treatment services for program and cost-effectiveness. Available evidence also emphasizes that programs that are “women-centered,” or actively responding to women’s concerns and constraints are likely to be the most successful. Throughout January we will take the initiative to mark Cervical Cancer Awareness Month by organizing a series of virtual events highlighting the latest estimates of the burden of cervical cancer and by raising awareness globally to accelerate theelimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem. With this background ASSOCHAM is organizing Web Series- on Cervical Cancer titled Cervical Cancer Control – A Comprehensive Approach on January 24’2022 at 1600 hours with the objective that India has a wide network, to reach out to the women and their families to inform them about the danger of cervical cancer and prevention measures We look forward to your active participation.
