New Renewable Energy

The ASSOCHAM National Council on New and Renewable Energy brings together renewable energy developers, manufacturers (including ancillary manufacturers), and renewable energy generators across the solar and wind sectors. Serving as a leading Industry Policy Forum, the Council promotes policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and industry–government collaboration to accelerate the growth of India's renewable energy ecosystem.

The Council works closely with the Union Government, State Governments, regulators, and industry stakeholders to address sectoral challenges, advocate regulatory reforms, and support public policy that enables sustainable growth and infrastructure development across the renewable energy sector. It also contributes to achieving India's target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, strengthening the country's transition towards Net Zero, green growth, and climate action.

Through strategic partnerships, knowledge initiatives, and continuous stakeholder engagement, the Council actively contributes to building a resilient, future-ready, and globally competitive renewable energy ecosystem in India.

PRIORITY AREAS

• Atmanirbhar Renewable Energy Ecosystem: Strengthening domestic renewable energy manufacturing and component manufacturing capabilities and reducing import dependence. Conducted focused studies -‘Supporting an ecosystem for development of the Indian solar and equipment manufacturing in India’ that suggested needs to ensure end-to-end integration for the ecosystem to develop, introduction of ALMM, BCD schemes, PLI (separate bucket for different value chain stages) and dedicated PLI for polysilicon and wafer production to bridge technological gaps and boost capacity. Suggested phase-wise minimum local value addition of 75% to 85% to ensure development of entire value chain, including ancillaries. Promoted cutting- edge technology adoption to replace modules with efficiency >22% with a higher incentive of 1.25x – 1.5x higher efficiency.
• Grid Integration and Energy Storage: Promote integration of renewable energy into the Grid and promote storage solutions
• Distributed Renewable Energy Development: Statewise Solar Rooftop Attractiveness Index promoted  inter-state competitiveness. The ASSOCHAM study Index (SARAL) adopted by MNRE as its own Index.
• Supported Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Development. Focused on initiatives to support manufacturing electrolyzers in India, subsidised green hydrogen prices to match conventional hydrogen costs through demand aggregation. Study on Green Hydrogen discussed with Niti Aayog, MoRTH, MNRE.
