Illness to Wellness Interactive Session on Empowering Elders

  • 05 Dec, 2024

Elders are the custodians of wisdom, culture, and experience, serving as a vital link between generations and enriching our society with their knowledge and resilience. Providing care for older adults is not only a way of honouring their contributions but also a vital step toward building a compassionate, inclusive society. Ensuring their health, dignity, and active participation benefits everyone by creating communities that respect and support every stage of life. Mental wellness is also a crucial component of elderly care, as emotional and psychological well-being directly impacts their overall quality of life.

On the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons, celebrated annually on October 1, recognizes the contributions of older individuals and emphasize the importance of creating inclusive environment that respect their rights and well-being. The UN’s 2024 theme, "Ageing with Dignity: Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide," highlights the need to ensure that people grow old with dignity and full participation in society.

In India, the elderly population is projected to reach 193.4 million by 2031, underscoring the urgency of addressing healthcare, economic security, and social integration for older adults. The National Health Authority is considering the need to add more health packages catering to the elderly or geriatric care for all aged 70 years and above.

With the objectives to raise awareness about their health and other challenges and highlight the opportunities related to overcoming early ageing, ASSOCHAM National CSR Council, under the Illness to Wellness campaign, is organizing an interactive session on "Empowering Elders: A Path to Healthy and Graceful ageing" scheduled on Thursday, 5th December 2024 from 09.45 AM to 11.45 AM at the Seminar Hall, IIC, New Delhi.
