Capacity Building of Exporters for Enhancing Exports from Assam

Northeast of India has emerged as a strategic region for globalization and growth. The changing world order has made Northeast of India a strong pillar of future prosperity. The Northeast region has been working to create an investable business climate and secure a stable economy. Over the years there have been several infrastructure developments, MSME, Food Processing, Energy and Tourism initiatives that have been taken up the state governments of the region. However, there is opportunity for more. Therefore, there is a need for partnerships for training and competence building, investments, marketing, processing, projects and infrastructure development to accelerate growth and economic activities, leading to more jobs, incomes and opportunities for the people of this region.

Assam is the largest economy in the northeast region. Owing to its relative proximity to the rest of the country and availability of quality infrastructure, the state offers a favorable environment for industry. Assam has adopted numerous investor-friendly policies to attract investments and accelerate industrial development. Key areas of focus include MSME, Agri, Horticulture, Tea, IT, Tourism, Bamboo, Power sector etc. Assam stood 22nd among Indian states in rankings based on ease of doing business.

The export potential of the Northeast region is significant however the gap exists owing to less awareness among the exporter community of the region and tech adaptability. Region offers natural products which can be further built upon to enhance trade and export potential. The young generation of entrepreneurs in the region are enthusiastic, however they need handholding.

To develop the export eco system among existing and potential exporters and to help build capacity of the exporters of the region we are hosting a workshop cum conference on Capacity Building of Exporters for Enhancing Exports from Assam on 19th December 2024 at Guwahati, Assam. The meet shall be a platform to deliberate and debate as what will it take to realize North-East’s full resources potential, to achieve the target of doubling North-East’s business output and contributing to India’s vision of 5 trillion USD economy.

The Program objectives are::

• Work to help manufacturer exporters to build trade capacities, enhance their trade performance
• Government schemes, financial assistance, cluster development.
• Provide understating of institutional support in terms of resources, incentives and knowledge of trade issues to undertake trade capacity building activities.
• Strengthening MSMEs of the Region with Financial and Technological Knowhows
• Development of new capacities and enhance the competencies of the export community.
• Encouraging investment in export-oriented R&D, the introduction of high tech, development of value-added products and product development/adaptation (designs, packaging, etc.).
• Increasing the competitiveness of the value chain to obtain national and international standards and quality certification.
• Develop export-oriented SMEs and promote linkages between exporters and producer clusters.
