India's collective share in global exports of sports goods & physical fitness equipment, is less than 1% has remained stagnant in last 5 years. Sports goods industry has potential to employ millions of people in India given the labor-intensive nature of industry it has a tremendous potential to boost employment in SME sector. The Central government in the Union budget for 2021-22 allocated Rs 2,596.14 crore to sports, less by Rs 230.78 crore -- or, 8.16 per cent -- allocated in the previous financial year during which hardly any sports activity was held due to Covid-19 pandemic. The Indian sports and fitness goods market exhibited moderate growth during 2015-2020. IMARC Group expects the Indian sports and fitness goods market to grow at a CAGR of 8.6% during 2021-2026. ASSOCHAM has been appointed as Industry Chamber for Sports Goods & Gym Equipment by DPIIT, for undertaking a study.

The objective of the ASSOCHAM National Council on Sports & Fitness Industry is to provide valuable inputs and suggestions on behalf of Industry for policy change in the Sports & Fitness Industry towards facilitating an Industry friendly environment.

Through policy advocacy, conferences, seminars, council meetings, strategy papers, recommendations, etc, the ASSOCHAM will pursue these objectives along with Government's policy to accommodate and drive the high growth of Sports & Fitness Industry.
