Changing demographic profile coupled with increasing disposable income of the middle class is giving rise to growth of Food Processing Sector in India. As the sector is growing rapidly, it brings new opportunities and challenges as well. The components of food value chain starts from preparation, processing, storage, transportation, distribution and finally consumption by the end user. Any particulars of the food value chain can get contaminated at any stage which can lead to serious health issues.
 
The food industry is one of the largest industries in India in terms of production, consumption, export and growth in the coming years. With the rise in the eating out culture, there is a growing concern about food safety too. Cleanliness is a major challenge in the food industry, which is posing serious threat to the health of the consumers. In India, majority of vendors, witness unhygienic conditions with limited access to clean water, sanitary services or garbage disposal. Everyone in the food production chain needs to maintain sanitation and food hygiene with utmost priority. Hence, food safety in food processing is a major issue which needs to be addressed.
 
To discuss and promote health & hygiene practices, nutritional value, food safety and operational efficiency at various levels in food industry and to accomplish Swacchata Action Plan, ASSOCHAM in support with Ministry of Food Processing Industries, is organizing an Interactive Session on “Swachchta in Food Processing Sector” on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in Gurugram, Hotel Pllazio from 9AM to 3PM. The session will be conglomeration of stakeholders from food industry, government, research & regulatory bodies and professional service providers on one platform to take concrete steps towards clean and hygienic food industry by following best and healthy practices.
